Which fonts render which script
Checked in September 2026 by reading each of the 18 caption fonts' own character maps, then confirming on an iPhone what actually gets drawn when a font is missing a character. Nothing renders as an empty box — but for three of these scripts, the font you pick makes no difference to the result.

What "supports 99 languages" actually means
- Transcription is the 99. The audio track is sent for speech-to-text, the language is detected from it, and the words come back with word-level timing. That part does not care what fonts are installed.
- Rendering is where scripts differ. A display font built for English headlines has no Devanagari in it. When a character is missing, iOS substitutes its own font for that script rather than drawing an empty box, so the caption is correct and sharp — just not in the typeface you tapped.
- Every other style control is script-independent. Colour, outline, background, word highlight, layout, animation and position work identically whatever the language.
- There is no translation. Captions come out in the language that was spoken. If you need subtitles in a second language, this is not the tool.

How many languages does Capster support?
99, and it detects which one you are speaking from the audio, so there is no language picker to get wrong. That is the transcription side. Whether the caption then renders in the font you chose depends on the script, which is what the table on this page is for.
Do I have to choose the language before transcribing?
No. The language is detected automatically from the audio track. If a clip mixes two languages the transcript follows what was actually said, which is normally what you want on short-form video — code-switching is how most people actually talk.
Do all 18 caption fonts work in every language?
No, and no app's do. A font only draws the characters it was built with. All 18 cover the Latin alphabet; five cover Cyrillic; none cover Devanagari, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese or Korean, so iOS substitutes its own font for those scripts. The captions still render — the font choice just stops mattering.
Can I translate my captions into another language?
No. Capster transcribes what was said, in the language it was said in. It does not translate, and it does not dub. If you need subtitles in a different language from the audio, you need a translation tool — that is a real gap, not an oversight to work around.
Are the captions burned into the video in every language?
Yes. Every language exports the same way: the captions are rendered into the frames rather than attached as a subtitle track, so every viewer sees them by default. There is no SRT file in any language.
