Three things to watch for in Portuguese
- Brazilian and European Portuguese transcribe differently. The two differ in vocabulary and in how much of a word is actually pronounced. The transcript follows the speaker, so a Brazilian clip captioned for a Portuguese audience will still read as Brazilian.
- Nasal vowels carry the meaning. The tilde on ã and õ is not decoration. A caption that loses it says a different word, and it is the most common thing worth fixing by hand before exporting.
- Portuguese runs long. The same sentence is usually longer than its English equivalent. On a vertical clip that means either a smaller font size or accepting two lines, and two lines with word highlight generally reads better than one line shrunk to fit.
